Audiolingual Method

Description:

The Audiolingual Method is based on the behaviourist theory of positive and negative feedback. That is, students receive positive feedback when produce correct response to stimuli and negative feedback when their production is not what is expected.

In this Method, learners are taught exclusively in the Target Language (TL) through drills and rehearsal of grammar structures. Listening and speaking precedes reading and writing as they are seen as being paramount to the acquisition of these late skills.

As a natural successor of the Direct Method, concrete vocabulary is taught through demonstration and abstract vocabulary is taught through association of ideas.

Comments:

I've never had much contact with this method. Drills and rehearsals are very useful tools to teaching listening and pronunciation, though, as much of these skills is related to physical perfromance which improves with repetitive train.
